Rev. Barbara Wood Salyers

Pastor Barb joined Hopewell UMC on June 27, 2010,
and came to us from Carroll Shalom UMC.  She has been an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church for over 27 years.  A native of Ross County, Barbara grew up on a
farm and participated in 4-H, Grange, and Farm Bureau Youth.  Her home church is Clarksburg United Methodist, which is part of a 3-point charge (one pastor serves 3 churches).  Growing up, she was an active participant in Sunday School, church, choir, youth and church camp.

Pastor Barbara's parents, brother and sister-in-law still live in Clarksburg and are active in the church and community.   Her brother now owns and farms the family farm.  Her Mother and Father live across the road from the farm, and her almost 90-year-old Dad continues to lend his help on the most every day.  Pastor Barbara's sister, Patti, lives in Columbus with her husband and daughter.  Patti is a physical therapist at Riverside Hospital.  Her family is active at Indianola Presbyterian Church.  Pastor Barbara has one niece, three nephews, three niece-in-laws, three great-nephews and one great-niece.

Pastor Barbara is a graduate of Adena High School, Ohio University, The Methodist Theological School in Ohio, and Christian Theological Seminary.

She met and married her husband, Jeff, while serving as the pastor of Burgess Ave. UMC.  Jeff grew up in "the hilltop" of Columbus and graduated from West High School.  As a boy, he was active in Boy Scout Troop #79 at Burgess Ave. UMC, where he earned his Eagle Award.  Jeff has been active in scouting for 40 years.  He has been on several training teams for boys and leaders.  He was the Scout Master for Troop #79, when Pastor Barbara arrived at Burgess.  Jeff first asked her out by saying, "Would it be ok if the scouts did a service project around the church and would you like to go out with me sometime?"   She said yes to both and the rest is history.  On July 27, 2010, they will have been married for 19 years.

Jeff is a graduate of The Ohio State University in "Production Management."  Since graduation Jeff has worked for Magic Chef, Nippertt Co., and for the last 10 years, COTA.  He currently is a "Storeroom Supervisor."

Pastor Barbara and her husband have two daughters, Rebekah and Rachel.
Rebekah, who is 16, will be a junior at Bloom-Carroll High School.  She is active in band, women's choir, Columbus Cauldrons' Choir, 4-H, Fairfield Co. Jr. Fair Board and church.  Rebekah went on her Chrysalis Flight in January.  Rachel, will be 14 in July.  She will be a freshman this fall at Bloom-Carroll High School.  Rachel is in the band, women's choir, cross country, track, 4-H, and church.  The girls raise Holland lop and New Zealand rabbits for the fair and as pets.  The family also has a house cat "Bebe" as a pet.

Pastor Barbara and her family all look forward to being in ministry with all the folks at Hopewell and know that God will continue to bless them.
